Hey everyone! So clearly I stink at this whole blogging thing. It's been 5 weeks since my last update (I sound like I'm at a blogger's anonymous meeting). Anyway, May proved to be quite a busy month! A lot has been happening in the Lam Fam household, so let's get you up to speed. You may want to grab a coffee and get cozy, 'cause this one's a doozy!
1. We started off the month with Mason getting a stomach bug at daycare, which resulted in him having the runs 5 times a day for a week straight. Unfortunately, that meant us scrambling to see who was going to be able to watch him since he couldn't go back to daycare until he was runs-free for 24 hours. Poor guy. Poor mommy. Poor grandma, too. And, we were on diaper watch moreso especially because we planned on taking a few days off at the beginning of the month to spend time together as a family. We wanted to go to the zoo, go run around, have some mommy and daddy quality time. You know, fun stuff. The runny diapers were about the throw a wrench in the whole production. But, Mason pulled through at the last minute, so we were able to take our whole 2 days off from work (I already had Friday, the 7th off for Truman's birthday - the beauty of working for county government). So we went to the zoo and we sent Mason to daycare for a little while, so Woei and I could enjoy a nice lunch together and then we just hung out as a fam for the rest of the weekend. It was quite enjoyable.
2. Then we celebrated Mother's day the following weekend. See the eariler post on that. It was a great first Mother's day!
3. The next week was interesting. Mason started a cough on the following Sunday and he kind of had a runny nose. Both of which are not atypical when you send your child to daycare. But THEN! The next morning, we got up, did our typical routine, went to daycare. He was still a little puny, but not too, too bad. Towards the end of the day, I got a call from daycare that he'd thrown up twice, once really big time and he was not feeling well at all. After the beginning of the month, I was starting to hate it when daycare called. So I was already leaving for the day, went to pick him up and he had gone through both sets of his clothes at daycare, so they had him in one of their t-shirts for like 2-year-olds. He was sleeping and he'd thrown up again before I got there. So we went home and he was completely not himself. Totally tired, couldn't keep his eyes open, nose was completely stuffed at this point and he had a cough. He was running a mild fever, but the biggest difference with him was how sleepy he was. He was almost delirious. We called the doctor, they said keep an eye on him, call if his breathing gets labored, etc. In the middle of the night, he got a little worse, so we called the exchange, they said we should probably bring him into the E.R. to check his breathing. So we packed everything up and went to Children's at like 2 a.m. His lungs were okay, but he was NOT a happy camper. They were able to use their industrial strength nose-suctioner to clean out his nose.
NOTE: When a contraption is hooked up to the wall and they tell you to get ready to have his brains sucked out, you know your child is not going to like it. He didn't. At all. He was sick, tired, had lost his voice, and now was being held down to get all the snot out of his tiny nose. Boy was he pitiful. And boy did he have a lot of snot! (It's amazing - really). And boy were we tired! We managed to sleep a total of 2 hours that night and I, amazingly as well, was able to drive into work the next day, but totally left early. It was bad. So that warranted another week of grandma duty until he got better. But he did and now he's good to go!
4. He has two teeth and oh yea, he was teething in the weeks between being sick, so that was fun, too. He has another one starting to come in on the top. But he's becoming a pro now at teething. He just rubs his tongue on his gums and as long as he gets orajel on it at night, he's been sleeping pretty well.
5. Oh and did I mention that after he got better, during the next couple weeks after that, he hit a growth spurt? Yea, Woei and I were getting up at 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. to feed him for like a week and a half. We felt like he was 2 months old again. Isn't it funny how the second they start sleeping through the night, you immediately get so used to it? So much so that if they wake up for something in the middle of the night, you're a COMPLETE zomby the next day as a result of that disrupted sleep. Woei tried to play tough guy one night...and Mason won - he cried for 45 minutes straight. I asked Woei how he liked be out-stubborned (it's not a word, I know, but it fits) by his son. He didn't like that.
6. Oh, yea, and this is funny. So he's finally illness-free and we send him to daycare the following week. That day, they called. I about hit the floor - what now? He'd thrown up -
again. But they said he was acting fine, so he could stay (thank goodness - I was starting to worry that I'd be
forced to become a stay-at-home mom, not that I would mind too much, but still!). They started checking stuff and realized that the day he'd thrown up the week before, he'd eaten peas and then that day, he'd eaten peas. "Maybe he's allergic to peas," the said.
Maybe, I thought,
just maybe. So we didn't give him any the next day or for the rest of the week for that matter and he hasn't thrown up since. Except for the other night when he gagged on a puff. But, that doesn't count. He was gagging, turning red, I was freaking, and Woei just took him and starting wacking his back and then, bleegh, he puked. But we were just happy he was breathing! But, I digress... (10 bucks if you can guess who said that - post your guess and let me know you're still alive or at least that you read all the way to this point).
Hey, I warned you didn't I? Well, I'm gonna post some more soon and get some pics on here. Words are just plain boring without some pics to go along. I've got some good ones. Anyway, thanks for reading and catching up with us! We're glad you're still around. Maybe if I can get on top of this blogging thing, I won't have to these marathon posts and then you all will still like us!
Talk soon!!!
